Ebay must be getting desperate.

Yup. I think the o.p. is on about the selling price discount offers from sellers though. Sometimes quite substantial discounts.

I read it as EBay themselves are getting desperate rather than sellers.

This is partly true as the marketplace has new players coming in. TikTok is coming fast and it’s going to be huge. We launched last week on TikTok as they are throwing huge sums at it now.

EBay are trying to move to an Amazon type set up by doing fulfilled by eBay but it’s not working.

EBay try to incentivise private sellers with £1 listings or 80% off etc.

They incentivise businesses by lots of other methods.

they incentivise buyers by offering them discount codes which can sometimes be used against select sellers or on anything at all. Funded by eBay

I didn't know you can buy or sell on TikTok. Thought it was just for short videos.

I'm assuming there aren't many retro bikes on there?

Yes TikTok shop is getting big now.

We have deliberately put it off as I wasn’t sure how it was going to mature but it seems they have found their feet now. They have thrown 0% fees , an account manager, and un-gated access to brands which usually would be hard to have approval to sell.

We have purchased software which links our website to TikTok. It is live so all the stock and orders come via the site but are sold via TikTok. You can load products on individually if you are only selling a bit.

Currently we are fulfilling the orders as I would a eBay or website sale. But TikTok now offer the option similair to Amazon where they will fulfil it with your stock.

You pay for affiliates to TikTok your stock and pay them an incentive of what they sell. You can also do paid advertising too. You can select which creators you want to promote or put it out for anyone to do.

It's most definitely ebay I'm talking about.

It seemed like they would offer me a discount on an item I would've looked at or shared on here every so often but now it's weekly.

I must admit though I'm still a fan of ebay and find it easier and far more user friendly than Amazon.

There are always deals on eBay now for a buyer. Coupon codes seem to be constant. Best part about it , is you can still benefit from a sellers discount and then use a eBay discount too.

I find that people are either a eBay buyer or a an Amazon buyer. They rarely use both and they differ totally in what they buy and prices paid.

I don’t even have a personal Amazon account as I’m a ebay buyer , or direct to website itself. But many friends buy everything off Amazon and don’t even look elsewhere.

I still don’t think people understand Amazon and the way the catalogue pages work. They also think that they are buying the item from Amazon themselves if it’s FBA. (Amazon do sell but it’s mostly not)

Well I've learnt something new today 👍

To be fair up until 6 months ago I thought Tiktok was just girls dancing and silly videos. However they are seriously looking to take a chunk of Amazon's/ Ebay market share.

I'm still learning how it all works and fumbling my way through it but I can certainly see its potential with certain demographics which we sell to

Similar to ebay they run campaigns which you can sign up for. Tiktok themselves fund it entirely, with discounts of 1% -15% for the customer at no cost to us. You simply register which products you want included. (see screenshot)

Ebay tends to drop these on you at a moments notice which sometimes I miss but Tiktok have laid out to see what's coming up for while in front.

Another new marketplace I've been on for 6months is one called Cosmetify which works in a similar way to comparison sites by showing the best price for a product from many retailers. The customer can buy it off that site, and the order comes to us via our linked website. Its all automated with stock levels and prices.

Ebay certainly are losing ground to them all in terms of tech and convenience for the seller.
