no - was a karma frame which set some tempers flairing which in turn put me off riding the damn thing.

I don't THINK that 853 was ever "meant" to be "comfortable" (altho' IMO that, as subjective as it is) is more to do with geomery than material). This one that I had for a while was certainly meant for a powerful full-on RACE rider - NOT for comfort!
Though a lot more forgiving than a Raleigh Timet (once tested as the stiffest frame on the (then) planet!).

Its nothing to do with comfort, its the twang of a good steel frame as you accelerate as fast as possible. I had a Cinelli that was fantastic, a Gazzelle that was fantastic (but too rusty) and various tip finds that have been very good but always on the small side.
