Maybe you are being a bit naive or stupid or brave and even though i'd like these to work out for you i hope the risk doesn't end up costing you more than the actual purchase price ..

Well finger's crossed you'll be fine as i know likeclockwork was with her's but she wasn't 100% confident with them from what i could make out from her thread ..

Think they will need regular looking at tbh- I'll whip them off periodically if they haven't whipped me off first. The manufacturers must be confident- the packaging was dire to the point where I'm amazed they made it from china. Bodes well!

Well if the packaging was as bad as you say it was then they must be a lot less fragile than they look as we all know how good's and baggage tend's to get treated on plane's as i found that out when i went away for a week's holiday back in 2010 and my suit cases are still carrying the scar's

The picture on the previous page shows them on top of all they came in- they weren't even bubble wrapped, never mind boxed! Bombproof!

Huh! i thought that was just the last lot of wrapping you took off them
:shock: which just goes to show that either the forks were well loked after on their journey too you or are a damn sight stronger than they look :roll: which i'm assuming it's the latter .

The steerer tube looks the weak link- I was hoping/thinking it was ally which would have made more sense. The forks seem solid, as indicated by their arrival in one piece!

Yes the steerer tube is always the most stressed area on the forks so the most worrying when using carbon fibre as the main material but on the plus side the steerer should be fairly well supported once fitted where the bearings are positioned on the head tube so fingers crossed it should be fine ..

Nothing wrong with carbon steerer; got full carbon forks on my best road bike, can't recall the brand (Izumo or am i making it up?) but they came with x-ray photo of the crown/steerer area.

also remember you need to use expander type bung, not star-fangled nut.

the lower race due to the alloy insert needs the steerer to be thinned down - can you see or feel if the steerer is thicker internally at that point to compensate - I would expect it to be.
