You may be right. My mate bought the bike new when we all worked in Halfords. That's was late 87 to 90 so it could have been 89. I had it from him in 92-93 ish.
I'm not sure whether those are the correct numbers or if it's the other's that run inline with the edge of the bottom bracket tbh but i can understand you making the frame out to be a 1988 model going off that number but by the same rule your suppose to be able to read the month and what number frame it is or something on those lines from what i understand

The risen numbers just say " LB02 ". I have no idea really how to make sense of them. It took me out for a 10 mile blast last night and I really enjoyed it. I don't think it's ideal with the forks as the head angle is very relaxed anyway. It's very stable through the fast corners though. Just like I remember it.
Okay then Lee , it looks as though it maybe an 88 frame afterall but the design with the brake bosses on the seat stays clearly states it being an 89 bike although it's now't new to find last years frame used on this years model .
Yes it does seem to have a bit of a relaxed head angle which isn't to bad at all on long trips as it makes for a more relaxed ride so if you fancied using it as an off road touring bike then it would be ideal for the job which but if the front end feels a tad low then i'd go looking for slightley longer forks to even things up a notch otherwise to long a fork and you'll ruin the ride and the bike will feel uncomfortable lol ..
I'm 95% happy with it. I dont know whether the 5% is a fault or whether is just what I'm currently used too. Either way I enjoyed it and it'll have a lot more miles put on it before I take the other bikes out. Thanks for your input.
Glad to see your mostly pleased with the bike and you won't regreat using it for a few more miles and i wish i could of given a bit better info on the serial number but their are others on here that could probably help you out better ..
