Early Bontrager Race Lite

I did a little mock up with spare parts and realized I really have little for decent spare parts lol.

If you need some early Bontrager build inspiration… MBUK featured an awesome early Bontrager in a feature in ‘suspension bikes’ featuring Rock Shox Mk.1 + Bonty crown & suspension geometry.

The US Bicycling magazine also had a cool review of an early racelite (I might still have a copy of this).

The fork that came with this frame may have been an add on from the bike collective or maybe the former owner threw it on the frame when he donated it. The steerer was about 3/8” to long and the lock nut would not work as designed. A little midnight hacksaw action in the shop and she’s good as gold.

With seat collar and anti chain suck mechanism comes to 1,768 kg. It’s pretty impressive to say the least.

Stated catalogue weight for the 1992 race lite is 4lb 4oz - so yours is super light compared to that.
