Dirt Disciple
I collected a 60s BSA in poor condition this week. I've had half an eye out for a Raleigh tourer of the period, but this caught my eye due to the relative rarity of BSA, despite being more-or-less a Raleigh, and the colour scheme which is unusual compared to the conservative dark blues & greens of the period.
It has what's described in a Raleigh catalogue (from karinexmachina's 1961 Suberbe thread) of the period as "peak head tube decoration" in white with gold edges, and looks to be pretty much the same as Raleigh's Sports Light Roadster from the same catalogue which could be ordered in crimson with white flashes.
Having lived in Germany for much or most of it's life, it's picked up a DDR-Ruhla dynamo and a Sachs Torpedo 3-speed hub with back-pedal brake. The Weinmann alloy calipers and levers are also non-original as is the saddle . I'd like to gradually change these back to UK components to improve originality when I can.
I'm pleased that although in a bit of a state, the paintwork is good enough to do a preservation job on, especially with the matching mudguards and full chaincase.
Any knowledge of this model, or BSAs of the period generally, would be gratefully received!
