Dura Ace 7401 DT shifters

7/8 speed SIS 7401 down tube shifters. Bit of pitting to chrome ends. I haven't mounted them since buying them for retro build and don't think i'm going to use them any time soon.

Ive had a pm asking if they are 7 or 8. Ive never used this so unable to confirm. Is anyone able to identify which version this is? It does say "SIS SET" on the side in tiny letters, if that helps

Think they are 7 speed! An easy way to find out is to put the right gear lever on a frame and count the clicks.

Yep, 7401 are 7s, 7402 are 8s. It might say "x-speed index" on the side, at least I think it does on the 7402s.

Hello,
Can these switch to work on friction, and if so, do you know if they then would be able to pull enough cable for an 8spd cassette?
I will take them if so.

I couldn't tell you as I never ended up using them. It's got SIS on the side but can't say if it can pull on a 8. Someone with more experience may be able to advise?
