DT Swiss nightmare

Ok so my beloved forks which I have had for about 9 years have me stumped

the Q/R lever has unscrewed from the axel!

the lever fits in on a M10 thread - I tried loctite but it still won't budge

the thread inside doesn't go all the way through.

I have tried with M10 studding but I can't get it to lock up tight enough to unscrew it - I have ended up tightening it even more!!!!!!

My next idea is to tap out the internal thread and fit a stud bar from the other side and tighten a nut up on the other side and try undoing that way!

So lets have your bright ideas please....

Flat bladed screwdriver in one of those dimples and tap it round with a hammer.

It doesn't look like a qr lever in the usual sense, not a cam lock type.

Try a hex key in the end (orange bit) and keep pushing that tight whilst simultaneously rotating the lever to loosen. i.e. pushing the lever and hex key in different directions with the bias to the lever

Cheers but the lever is fixed onto the thread you can see and yes there is a hex key in the red end and in the other end but as the unit is one piece they only serve is the lever is snapped off.

Also the gold collar thing- I don't know which way it is threaded so I am persevering with getting the axel out

got it out- don't ask me how - lots of faffing and swearing and talking to myself and slicing my finger open,

turns out mine has a crack - probably on the tube seam- this had jammed in the drop out cup- which I had to wind out with the axle- the cup is now back in with green loctite. (also see what loctite auto corrects to)

now to go shopping for a 100mmX15mm Axle

Is it DT Swiss specific? I have a SRAM Maxle ultimate 15x100 in as new condition going on eBay this weekend, £25 delivered if it will fit.

thanks they are funny sizes the axle is 143mm and has 17mm of thread showing which is 15X1.5 pitch

so I have ordered a new one from Singletrack in Fife for £30 posted

At that price it is a no brainer to get the correct item.

The SRAM ultimates are nearly £60! Hold the wheel in just as well as the standard maxle as far as I can tell, lol. Look nice though..

looks like they have changed the design slightly so the lever can stay or or be removed, i guess it will have the same problem if the axle cracks. Mind you the last time I used this bike was in Morzine and doing Ports Du soleil and I did warp my rotors that week, so maybe that caused the crack?

anyway I will start keeping an eye on my maxels just in case! the moral of the story - examine for cracks and chuck them away.
