Dragging myself back to riding not just hoarding bikes and getting fat....

I went through similar after my main riding buddies stopped having time to ride and I was busy with kids, work, house, etc. I stopped waiting for the opportunity for a social ride and just started getting out on my own at a time that suited me (mid week usually as I work shifts). At a pretty stressful time of life I found getting out in to the hills with no music or distractions, plenty of fresh air and scenery to stop and look at a real tonic. They key for me was making time when the weather was nice. All the other jobs can wait for an hour or two.

I wouldn't over think selling if you don't need to either. Just pick a bike you want to ride, prepare it for use and keep it somewhere easily accessible. When you are pedalling you'll have time to think about what to do with your collection anyway, it's the perfect time! With longer, sunnier days coming and lighter nights make time for yourself, even if just for a short time as it'll improve your wellbeing and that in turn benefits those around you.
Some great words there that resonate with me to get me off my ass and ride my bikes. It's mad because i literally live less than a 5 minute ride from the seafront yet i always make some excuse not to do it,normally i think i bet it's to windy on the front instead of just riding there to find out if it's to windy lol

I wasn’t riding my retro bikes much, so I sold them. I put the money towards a modern 160mm travel full susser. It is big, heavy and lairy. However, it will plough it’s way through everything I attempt to ride and make me feel like I’m a hero. It’s new, different and makes me feel confident on silly stuff, I was doing the red runs at Bike Park Wales last week.

Mountain biking just got fun again. I am therefore riding a lot more MTB than I have in the last 10 years. I WANT to ride these days, I now plan weeks in advance to take it new places.

What am I getting at? Well, sometimes doing something different is the catalyst for change. As I don my body armour and full-face helmet, a little bit of me thinks I’m too old for this sh*t, but hey, I could be 6ft under soon, so f**k it!

shed nearly finished

house looking better, big heating work to be done later in the year and is out of my hands

bicycles all raring to go and even managed to ride the £8 Saracen about half a mile

might flog a few bits but no plans whatsoever to bui anything new, not when there is so much decent old kit to be had for peanuts

lots of exploring to be done out into the flatlands around The Wash

and best of all, have been very lucky to land a job that is a 4 day week

so am running out of excuses for proper riding

A slight niggle is that Thetford have been blocking all the 'free' parking in and around Brandon/ Thetford which is a bit of an arse

Lots of nice riding to be had Kings Lynn side of The Wash and just in to Norfolk.

That’s a bummer about the parking, I’ve not been to Thetford for about 15 years, was planning to go later this year. Guess will have to find a village a bit further out and ride in.

@enigma I've joined a cycling club this year....im not a club person...can't do random social stuff...but....its a good excuse to go out for a ride.

Somebody else sets the route....somebody else sets the time....theres tea and cake at 11....pint for lunch...ride home.

Bit of chat, but the level is up to you. If you want time in your own head, fine...if you want a natter, fine.

55 mile ride today....feeling good and getting the legs charged up for the summer.

Despite my reservations....deffo worth a go.

There’s not a suitable group near me that I’m aware of.
There’s a group full of rich, healthy sorts on mega money moderns, I know a couple of them.
It’s not for me just now though.

In fact I did this post mid life crisis twenty yrs ago I joined a classic mini club locally, it was scary then for me, but it was perfect.
I am mechanically minded, and a man who can weld and fix cars was very soon a very popular figure. ..! Some good friends to this day.
Same again running a decade later… can’t run any longer sadly, but it’s good advice and I am open minded if I find something promising.
