down tube barrel adjusters with small clip

Hello all,

Could someone please tell me the purpose of the small clip on these down tube barrel adjusters.Thanks in advance.

That clip is just holding the threaded barrel in the outer sleeve as it is under spring tension.
Thread the adjuster a few turns into the stop on the frame and pull that clip off, then thread the adjuster in the rest of the way.
