I'm entering my first XC race in nearly 15 years this sunday at the soggy bottom series down at Newnham . i'm going to keep it retro and use my 1993 Dave Yates DONKIS NOB which is all polished and shiny ! 2 of my old mates from BITD are racing as well ( Darren Tapp and Elbry Sandland) so it should be a good laugh . Any other retro bikers going to be there ?

Not going but good luck. Let us know how you get on, may pop down to one when I get my build finished.

Good on yer fella, did my first one back since 1994 this year. Really enjoyed it and made me wonder why i'd ever stopped in the first place. Hope conditions improve for you.

 I also raced the mtb for the first time in years this year, think I'm gonna do more next year,Newnhams a bit of a trek for me though!

Oh and good luck!

sorry for the daft question, but having never raced, I simply wouldnt know:

are races on a circuit, off road loop? That would drive me nuts but if there was a straight forward get from A to B off road as fast as poss, I think I'd like that more.

Good luck and I hope you've drunk enough beer and smoked plenty of tabs before hand.

They do tend to be done in loops of different lengths but i think that the enduro type races are popular now which are longer and go from point to point .its all a good laugh though

i did the midlands xc series this year.....first time in 13 years for me......really enjoyed it and had a blast.........i had forgotten what pushing my body into the last 5% of its capabilities felt like though,it hurts like hell........get stuck in there........p.s.are there photos of your knob on here?im interested as i have one in my stable.....

cool, good luck fella, raced my 1st marathon this year and it was my 1st race in nearly 13 years i think.enjoyed no end and cant wait for more next year.

darren tapp is a name i remember,i raced newnham back in the early to mid 90s and some tavi races. did he have a cannondale with a funky dave lloyd type paint job around 93??

The best training regime IMHO. I always did better after a bit of liquid carbo loading the night before, and knocking out yer red cells with tabs had a similar effect to altitude training.
I'm doing my first race in 9 years on the 29th Nov at Rushmoor/ Aldersnot- part organised by Gorrick. I did toy with doing the 4 hour race, but since I only ever get time for 90 mins ride at most, I'll play it safe and do the 2 hour. If my Scapin arrives in time, I might even do it on that :p
Anyone else going?
