PeteC, I dont actually remember seeing the other ad and I have an app that sends me craiglist alerts based on keywords. thats how I saw it in the first place. unless it was labeled as something other than a rocky mountain at first. It may have been a quick flip and you got it from the flipper, him getting a fast $500. ask your brother in-law if it was in fact the original owner..who knows.
BTW finders fee goes to Karma ;)
The listing last August/September was on kijiji in Quebec, it was the same bike but it had a rear pannier rack, so I'm guessing it was flipped. Still, I think it's worth what you paid.

There was one on Kijiji in Niagara Falls earlier this year. Still in the box w. receipt. Can't remember the year off hand.

That Niagara bike was on here in the what is it worth thread, back in July. it was indeed a NOS bike i believe, the owner had no idea what to set for an asking price and honestly i cant remember if anyone could help him out either. it was that far out.
Blizz, that explains why i didnt catch it. my alerts are only for the greater Toronto area. i'll have to change that i think.

I spoke to the guy and my brother-in-law met him in person. He says he was the original owner. Told me how he had memories of owning it when his daughter was little. Older guy...maybe late 50s or early 60s. Nice house in the 'burbs. No other bike stuff around. I can't see how or why he'd pretend any of that. I certainly don't have an issue with people making a bit of a profit from flipping. I told him I buy and sell a lot, but this one was for my permanent collection. Curious though. Rare bike. If it looks the same as the one in the kijiji ad, right down to the ugly saddle, seems like a huge coincidence that two might be out there, only a few hundred miles from each other.

I vaguely remember the NIB Niagara bike too. It was an early 90s frame, wasn't it? Wasn't the seller looking for something north of $2k?

I chatted with him briefly and at that time he had already been offered in excess of $1000

Re:

The true/real value of that bike, would prolly be somewhere around today's 'value' of it's original price, plus some residual additional value for it's rarity, condition, and collector's status.

Find the right buyer, and that bike would fetch a small nation's GDP worth.

WOW! That 1992 NOS Blizzard is amazing! I hope it was sold complete and not parted out, that would be a shame. Having built up hundreds of Rocky's in the 90s myself, it's even cool seeing the original box it came in!

Well, I was wrong about the 89 Blizzard posted in Quebec. It was not the same one or the same size, but what a coincidence having 2 of these up for sale both great condition!
Here are the pics I saved from the ad....
