Do you keep your builds?

I generally keep my builds, but if the frame doesn't fit me or I just don't like it I'll sell it, sometimes I'll take the good components off of them for myself and replace them with cheaper stuff.

Sold my Altitude to a friend last month. It's like a child of divorce. I still get to see it on weekends.

Re:

Ha! I rarely sell any of my old bikes, although I am considering a bit of a clear out when I get some time to have a sort through everything. Just picked up a complete 1988 Saracen Kili Flyer and a 1992 Saracen Tufftrax Elite frameset today so still very much collecting, restoring and riding.

Fortunately I have a very nice workshop and a busy bike repair business to go in there. Having a few nice old bikes on the walls is a good talking point for my customers.

The current bike list is here:--> viewtopic.php?f=6&t=279972

I've kept all of mine apart from one which was too small, but the money I got from it went straight onto another . I ride all of my bikes and each holds an emotional connection, plus they all put an ear to ear grin on my face :) .

I'm not intending to sell my Kona build as I've just spent too much on it in parts. If a higher-end '92 frame (Explosif?) came up at the right price I'd do a frame swap and maybe upgrade the LX bits, but that's it.

Re:

I still have all of my builds; one day I may even post 'finished' photo's of those I haven't got around to doing so yet...

As for recouping the outlay...

Not a hope in Hell!

Each of my bikes has cost in excess of a Grand to build ( ) but I'd not get half that for a sale...

...having said that, it depresses me every time I go in the shed and see them waiting there, while I just get fatter and fatter; been thinking of selling for a while now but, as I couldn't bring myself to break something I've put a lot of time, thought and effort into building, I won't be asking silly money so someone may pick up a bargain if I can't be arsed with all the faffing around on eBay... :|

I don't build builds, I build bikes. I ride them, and if I like them they stay, until I fancy something else. If I don't, they get sent down the river.

if I make a loss on selling them on so be it. If I don't want them, they are gone. Sunk costs shouldn't affect future decisions

Re:

If I have spent a lot of time on them I like to keep my builds, some even become 'babies', you wouldn't sell a baby would you? problem has always been storage though, if I can't store it (or not hidden from the missus eyes enough)..... its too many and its time to look at the least loved/ridden bike and saying goodbye :( sell it on here for paypal tokens, at least it shows up in threads every now and then....problem is, paypal money is always bike money and another irresistible project always pops up

vicious circle,
