Do Trek 9200's really ride that bad? Pics inside

I've found either a '94 or '95 9200 for sale, excellent condition for only US$250. Looks mostly original with a few cool purple bits and cheapo saddle and low mile. Still has the spoke reflectors and dork disc. If I bought it I would be riding it. I've read the rear suspension is pretty bouncy. My terrain is fairly flat with lots of roots, not any serious climbs. I'm 150lbs. Opinions?

Re:

They dont ride badly if you base your assessment on them from the perspective of what was available when they were new. But alas for the Trek 9000 series bikes, much better designs were hot on their heels and in comparison to the later designs they were not great.

I have a 1992 Trek 9500 and its not bad if you either wind up the rebound ring on the rear to the max so that the pogo effect is much reduced whilst pedalling but then the rear only reacts to big hits so negating the good point of suspension. Alternatively you get a modern shock tuned to the model such as supplied by Reece Racing which apparently transforms the handling but its not cheap. Biggest issues I've found with it are transmission feedback through the pedals as the chainline stretches with each pedal induced bob and the lateral flex due to not enough beef in the pivot point which can cause gear changing issues.

Ride it knowing its not going to be as good as later models and you'll be quite happy. But ride it expecting it to be good and you'll be disapointed. I like mine but I wouldn't take it around a modern trail centre.

Ride it and enjoy it for the retro is is as stated. I think it looks a bargain for that price. Amazing condition!

I took my 1997 GT STS-1 around Bedgebury trail centre on Tuesday, not the most taxing place but still pretty tough going. I had no issues keeping up with mates on modern full sussers and light hardtails with big suspension disk brakes and bigger wheels. I just felt it lacked grip compared to my modern bike.

Hoping you keep this and to hear how it goes :)

Well its old tech....but in my opinion its a pioneer. But i've been preferential to Treks. If your going to do the Kamikaze.....you're gonna pay for it! If you ride it like you just described...you'll enjoy it!

Re:

Buy it! It's a 94.
I have a 93 with the elastomer shock, fun bikes........so bad, but that's what's great about them. MTB's red head stepson.

miss all of mine, they ride individual but not as bad as "they" say, buy it, ride it and love it. raced mine and it flew downhill :)
