dismantle campagnolo nuovo record

Re:

You may be able to get hold of a replacement bolt but as I say it will need to be the correct size. I recently bought a ‘50s GS derailleur complete and hardly used but when I came to fit it I found that the bolt was slightly too short and clamped the mech rigidly to the frame. Other than being about 0.5mm too short it looked perfect and I guess had muddled up with another in the spares box in 1962 or something; I found a correct replacement at a bike jumble so all was OK. If you buy a bolt on line then you run the risk of it not fitting…that’s my experience anyway.

Re the jockey wheels, I have used Suntour wheels from EBay on Campag mechs (don’t tell!) but again, once you have paid for the wheels and the postage for a few bits you are probably well on the way to buying a complete unit. I have bought a couple of mechs from the classifieds here, why not put an ad in the wanted section?

I've dismantled a couple of NR mechs by filing the 'heads' off the rivets and tapping them out with a plain drift. This was to enable me to replace the bronze bushings which were worn and to make one decent mech from a selection of badly worn/bent ones. I used some brass tubing to replace the the bushings and to replace the rivets I turned up 2 'half rivets' from an old alloy bottle cage and tapped them in from each side rather than one long one. Having a lathe helps a bit though I suppose.

Hi Martin And Old Ned,

Thanks for the advice for which I'm most grateful, It really is helpful as I don't have any past experience with campo.goodies.

I didn't understand that the unit was able to rotate on the securing bolt, and I was considering Making a bolt myself, but as luck would have it, I only have dies of 10 x 1.25 and 10 x 1.50 . And of naturally a tap 10 x 1. :( So the cost of buying a new die would would make my el cheepo mec. expencive

and I think I'l give up trying to dismantle the para. as it is likely to do more harm than good,But thanks for the how to do it info.

I think I had better follow your advice to keep looking out for a correct bolt one on ebay.
