Disc pads and rotor question

Good evening,
I've got a set of XT calipers coming to replace the awful Alivio ones on my bike, which are running resin pads as signified on the rotors (for resin pads only written on them).

My question is, will I be ok using the Metal type pads that come with the XT's with the rotors til I can get some new (larger) ones for my bike? (On a bit of a tight budget at no, so upgrading slowly).

I'd appreciate a bit of sage advice so thought I'd ask some people that would know...

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re:

If they fit then yes. If pads are used, they benefit from a quick light rub with wet n dry

I have bikes witb disc brakes no idea nor cant recall if they are metallic, resin, kevlar, etc but all seem to work, never compared different types so cant say if any is better,

Some of the cheaper discs do get torn up by non-resin pads. But it takes some time, so if it's only planned as a temporary measure (few weeks) you should be ok. The harder you use them, the worse it's likely to be.
Just keep an eye on the discs.

(Some resin only discs can be fine with non-resin pads, others aren't........)

Put a wanted ad up, unless you want daft sizes, there will probably be someone on here with spare discs and/or adaptors. I know i have significantly into double figures of retired discs and probably a similar number of adaptors, most in immaculate condition, but no longer in use as the wheels/bike has gone, or the discs have been "upgraded" to new shiny stuff..........

It's a pity postage would be more than the cost of the discs from here!

I've run 'resin only' rotors for years as only the cheaper Shimano centrelock will fit my favourite wheels on one of my bikes. Used all sorts of pads, and a few different types of brakes and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Might, just maybe, wear quicker, but still last a good few years.

Re:

These are all immensely valuable opinions, thanks so much!

I didn't think about putting out a wanted request, only pitfall is I'd be after 203/180 centrelock rotors with a +23mm front adaptor, is that counted as an awkward size?
I'll put it out there anyway, and thanks again guys for your advice.

Re:

You can always fit centrelock to 6 bolt adapter.

Shimano is best but most expensive.

6 bolt rotors are so much cheaper.

Not always. I have some Red Metal wheels and the adapters don't fit. They have an external lockring, unlike the standard internal (cassette style) one.

Re:

I'm hoping they'll fit my SLX hubs as I've just ordered a pair of said adaptors, seems to me they make more sense then silly centrelock.
