Disc brake question (possibly dumb)

I'm thinking about popping a front disc brake on one of my bikes but know absolutely sod all about them. Maybe a bit less than that actually.

Not bothered about it being retro. Basic requirements are cable operated so I can keep my brake levers I already have, it appears that they will work according to Shimano (M950)

The forks on the bike are Marzocchi Z5's from 2001. They have disc mount on them but I don't even know what spec I need in terms of buying the correct type.

the avid bb7 is a good option as is the cable operated hayes model. the shimano ones (i think) don't have alot of power and they tend to rip through pads.

the fork will have an international disc mount on it and you will need a 6 bolt hub.

:)

The Avid is on sale from CRC just now for about half price. As is the BB5. This could be a pricy upgrade once I factor in the new wheel as well. Might be worth it though as I was a bit alarmed by the sound of my front rim being munched last weekend. I like V's but may have to confront the present day.

not much difference between the bb5 and the bb7 really. someone must have a wheel for sale somewhere on here surely. or atleast a hub?

Of course I will be attempting to save money by shopping on here. The good news is that I'm a bit of a featherweight so I don't need massive stopping power.

Got a pair of BB7 calipers the the Bristol Bike Jumble for £25 on Saturday, already on the £90-with-Race-Face-headset-and-Twelfty-seatpost On-One Inbred with the £45 Magura Phaon forks I picked up and the front Deore disc wheel I got for free which needed a new rim...

Cheapskate, moi...? :D

Dr. Matt...

PS: Mike: I need those SRAM hubs soon...!
