Digital SLRs

Might be time to replace and modernise... Coatings for digital have changed a bit and this may have an affect on your images.. Or it might not.. You might also find it will be much easier with newer kit..

Just a thought..

A mate was asking the same question, whether normal lenses can be used on any digital cameras[SLR lenses]
One of his Uncles has just popped his clogs and left all his camera equipment.Turns out the chap was a known reporter/cameraman and his stuff runs into many boxes.
Mate wants to know so that he can use them himself rather than splitting up such a collection

The big questions is how old the kit is and which make.....

If the uncle was a camera man relatively recently it's likely that the kit will be auto focus - if so lenses / flashguns etc will probably be usable on a modern camera body, (Canon / Nikon / Pentax / Minolta).

If the gentleman was retired for some time and it's manual focus kit it will be less likely to work - Canon and Minolta switched their lens fitting with the move to AF in the late eighties / early nineties. Nikon & Pentax kept the same physical mount but updated it for new features etc.

And of course if the lens mounts , then a modern lens can also work on an old body.Well it can do with a Pentax anyway.

However the super duper wide angle digi lenses will not quite work on older body without a small amount of darkening around the edges of the picture. Most of these lenses have a "D" in their title suggesting they are for teh smaller APS-c sensors.
Yeah, gotta be careful here and consult the lens compatibility table for your manufacturer.

As an example, Canon have tried very hard to ensure that you don't fit one of their EF-S lenses (designed to be used on a DSLR) onto an older EOS body, otherwise the mirror would smack into the end of the lens and damage one/both of them.
