I do like it on the dirt tyres, a lot. I bought it quickly and was tempted to spray it black but the bike has really grown on me. I need to be careful though, if I spend too much it will become one I don't want to commute on hehe

Slicks it is for now though, and luckily I love how it looks on them

I see it's biopace and not biospace, oh the shame! I'm blaming the fact that I'm doing this on my phone. I'll look into them though, I'm intrigued now.

Thanks for the info! I'm very new to retro bikes. If I do make it geared I'll just put new stuff on it most likely until it no longer is used as a commute in a few years.

as i said before DO NOT PAINT THAT it looks fantastic as is
cover it with inner tubes if the commute theft thing is a problem
or give it to me and i'll give you a choice or other frames in exchange

Hehe, really don't worry mate. I am 100% not spraying it. I did consider it, but absolutely love how it looks now. The commute theft thing isn't too bad to be honest, apart from the quick release saddle, but I'll sort that.

As others have said, I wouldn't.

The Ascent EX was black - well black "Tiger Stripe" the same paint effect they used on my 91 Apex in red. And although the paintwork isn't perfect, I think I'll just dab some touch-up on in a few places.

My 91 Axis has a near perfect paintjob, and is black, but with a sort of splattery ("spangle" it's called in the brochure) effect on it.

Your Ascent in that Neon Orange looks very striking. Not sure I've ever seen one in the steel, so to speak, but does look good from the photos.

You'll probably do what many seem to, over time add or upgrade bits to it, and get quite attached.

I had one of these--purchased new in the US in 1991. Same exact paint job. I believe it had all Deore DX components--definitely the hubs and cranks, pretty sure the (cantilever) brakes and levers also. It was 7 speed rapidfire. I might have a photo of it somewhere.

Deore DX equipped in 91 would have been the Apex - the Ascent might look in photos a similar colour - but it's more a bright orange, whereas the Apex was bright red with a kind of random black stripe all over it.

Ascent EX was black, I think, in 91.
