I found another one on Craigslist. This one I believe is a 1989 with pearl smoke paint. I plan on making it a bikepacking rig since it has all the rack mounts and start exploring the Northwestern US.

Going by the cranks and rear derailleur it would be an 89 so I assume the frame is as well, but obviously some of the other bits have been changed for newer

I took this on it's first outing on local dirt road about 15 miles. I had forgotten how well steel rides. Stoked to get racks on it.

Lovely bike...... This takes me back as the Apex in that very same smoke paint work was the very first time I ever went mountain biking..... my mate had one and lent me it whilst he went away on holiday and went 1/2 way up Snowdon and back.... I was hooked. I've been on the look out for one for years but my size (17/18"") never turns up.

That's lush! I had an ascent Ex with the smoke paint & purple lacquer finish a couple of years back, shouldn't have sold that one

I had a red one back in my college days cruising up into the Colorado Rockies. Takes me back to those great days.
