Dia Compe SS5 Brake Levers.... ??

So... what's the deal with these levers... Are they any good?

Some people seem to think they are junk... is this because Dia Compe is considered low end?

Personally I think they look pretty cool... how well do they function?

SS-5's are great levers! Super light weight and economical back in the day.

My personal favorite levers are SS7's, which are similar to the 5's but a little more stout=heavier.

They are awesome, light and work well, plus for me the shape is great. I guess if you are part of 'Club Grafton minimum' they are low-rent, but they work, so they have at least that over some of the chi-chi brands.

I have a set used with XC Pro cantis.
They are as good as I remember from 20+ years ago.
Especially for £12 a pair that they cost me.

They where the bees knees of levers for the lightweight power and cheap turn of the 90s around these parts. Cooler than the SS7.
Iirc where powerful due to short cable pull compared to others.
Often used with shimano super low profile DX/xt of the day and 987s

Generally removed from use when shimano servowave lever became affordable in some way. Just no where near as good as them.

No they're absolute shit. They Flex and the blades wobble because the mounting bolt doesn't stay tight

I'm starting to sound like a scratched record on these, but I wouldn't use them again unless I was really stuck. You get what you pay for, cheap crap
