Deore XT V Brake query

Got myself a full set on E-Bay and am in the process of fitting them up but there seems to be play on the pad holder. Don't think it will have an effect on the performance but worried it will make a rattling sound. Should there be any play here, if so how much? Worried I've just wasted £45.

what model XT are they? my M739 V's developed some floppiness in the parallelogram design linkages, which is apparently common if rather annoying. I think there is a "fix" for them though, can't remember what.... but someone else on here will know.

or do you mean the pads themselves ie they use a cartridge pad type system?

best thing to do is set it up and have a test ride, see what happens.

These are M739 and your description sounds exactly right.

Will be going to discs on my new build but that's a while off so would rather these were right for the interim

You shim them to make them better.
Apparently Hope disc brake shim's fit.
