Deore XT rear derailleur missing part

Hi, I am currently restoring my 93 Kilauea and noticed when putting the m735 rear derailleur back on, there is some sort of black plastic trim missing that goes around the pivot bolt where it screws to the frame. Any ideas if this is vital or just cosmetic? Thanks.

It is a cover for dust and it is not vital. The model that follewed after this didn't come with one.

It might be worth posting up something in the wanted section if you would like to have one, they do neaten up the mech a bit once fitted...

Just had a look in my own spares box but no joy. I'm sure somebody has one kicking about though

I have managed to find a NOS m900 XTR front derailleur but sadly I'm not posh enough for a rear. The XT has cleaned up okay though. Here is a before and after.....
