...Sent a frame back to Chris Dekerf to have some repairs/extra work done?

I'm breaking my bike as funds are a bit low right now, but while its down to the frame i've considered sending it to Chris Dekerf to have a disc tab fitted and a new seat collar brazed on. Has anyone any experience with sending it back to canada (and back again)?

Re:

There are plenty of great steel frame builders in the Yorkshire region able to do the work that I would personally choose over sending a frame transatlantic.

Bob Jackson
Woodrup
Feather Cycles

To name but 3

Re:

Would agree, the cost and hassle is huge, added to the faff and paperwork to convince the HMRC that the bike is a repair return not a new import.
Most builders will work with others so if you need decals for a respray after the work is done CdK will probably be willing to forward, equally if a specific part is needed.
But £100 each way shipping alone would probably equal the the total cost of having it repaired over here.

To add to that list of brazers above, if it's TIG welding you want then try Kevin Winters

Re:

Thanks
You pretty much echo my thoughts, just wondered if any one had done it.

I wouldnt use jacksons again, feather is just down the road (not sure of is mtb experience though) woodrup ive never seen his work.... might make an enquiry.

I'd also need hose guides and v brake bosses removing, so i might look into more local builder.

Depends on the age of the frame. If it has the original Dekerf decals with the vertical DE, you're SOL.

This is the decal (its a 97)
