What do you reckon is the definitive Retro Year?

Most of my favourite bikes have come from 91, 92 and 93, so i'm going for 92 which coincides nicely with the first M900 8 speed groupset.

'89 for me without a shadow of a doubt - more fond memories really but the '89 pink/green Stumpy and green/yellow 'splatter' Explosif; the Pace, the original Cannondales, Orange Clockwork, Cheddar Challenge etc...days before suspension, shifting gear without thumbies and the only future was the hope of one day affording a titanium frame.

The great canti/V brake handover of 1996. 8 speed " sorted " drivetrains, aesthetically pleasing components and steel was KING with geometry all but mastered.
I'm close to my dream bike which is...M900 drivetrain ( it looks SOOOO good ), M950 V brakes, Paul's levers and XT thumbies on a well sorted do-it-all steel frame ( only a shame it has to be 2006 Karate Monkey because I'm a giraffe ).

Hey, Mr Scum - would have thought steel was past it's sell by date* in '96?

(*to the great unwashed that is - not us retro aficionados...)

;)

It took me 2 bikes to realise I hated the ride of aluminium. Still, at least I found what I liked and that's always a blessing.

 1989...................by far, thats when all the 1990 bikes came out too (bonus) :D

For me it has to me 91 to 93. Thats when i was big into biking. New inovations seemed to be coming out all the time, steel ruled big time, there was no stupid gear indicators, suspension was just becoming mainstream (just) so was new and exotic to me. Started loosing interest when i got my driving license and the downhill scene started.....
