DDG Bouncer

I like URT framed mtb's, there I said it and I am not ashamed although maybe I should be.....

So having not had much in the way of mtb's in my stable after an over zealous clear out, bit of a mental health over reaction, I wanted another URT (Unified Rear Triangle). For those that dont know thats basically a Y frame bike where the bottom bracket sits on the unsprung part ie the swing arm.

I have been eyeing up a NOS DDG Bouncer for a couple of months on ebay and finally through caution to the wind and bought it

Now I know most folk associate these bikes with the scaffolding pipe catalogue BSO's but this on is a late 90's aluminium front triangle chromolly steel rear triangle model, so not cheapo rubbish.

However I know next to nowt about DDG or if their kit is/was any good. Any knowledge greatly appreciated ;)

Re:

A DDG Bouncer is one of these in size 19" from the days of V-Brakes around late 1990's I'd guess

It'll suffer the usual pedal bob from the low pivot point and I'll need to watch the brake jack problem under heavy braking but I'm used to that from the previous 3 URT's I have had. They climb and accelerate well but tend to act like hardtails a bit if you get out the saddle as you put your weight on the unsprung part unless you sit down or grip the saddle with your thighs.
Personally I love them and some small bespoke manufacturers still make high end ones, unfortunately they are the darling of the BSO manufacturers which seriously dents their cred

They have one cool feature, if you want to retrofit a longer fork than they were designed for and can live with a higher bottom bracket then you fit a longer rear shock to raise the rear and increase travel to match front thus not upsetting the handling, simple no drama upgrade.

found a ad for it in a 1998 mbuk

Brilliant thanks :)

Recently I had a big clear out of bike stuff because I believed that the hording of bike stuff was a symptom of my Depression. Yes it is a symptom but so is rash decision making, that meant I threw out way too much leaving me with one borderline BSO mtb which was barely adequate when my mates coaxed me out for some trail riding.

So with a cooler head I have resolved to build one mtb that ticks the boxes of what kind of bike I like riding off road. That one bike is a URT framed full susser and hence the DDG - The Bouncer. Going to build it quasi modern/retro. First I have some early coil Rockshox Pikes which thanks to U-Turn adjustment I can dial in the right suspension travel. Second a 30T 104 BCD narrow wide chainring matched to a 8 spd 12-40T cassette for 1 x 8 transmission. Front Disc, rear V-brake(later may convert to disc) and a host of scrabbled together junk from my cavernous parts bins, though less abundant since the clearout

Important, do not horde bikes again, just one reasonable mtb will do.....ARE YOU LISTENING VELO!!!!

Build will be put off until spring. Storm Brendan has reminded me how much miserable weather and horrid mud there is still to do battle with

I can see it now, "Ah, the weather has improved, I must get started on building my bike", then, later, you'll proudly stand back to admire it after doing a final check on all it's nuts n' bolts n' cables, only to see in the background that the rain is battering aff the windaes, finally summer has arrived........

Better start it soon.....

Re:

Just got a pretty reasonable early noughties Specialized Rockhopper Comp A1 frame for £10 which'll build into my winter mtb hack. I'll keep my URT as my precious.......
