Dawes galaxy - worth a respray at Bob Jackson?

Re:

If you check out P4D or Parcel Monkey posting out your frame and forks should be around £12-£15.

Send it to these guys: http://www.bournespowdercoating.co.uk/

They do loads of bike frames and their work is so good you'll struggle to tell it from enamel, even around the lugs! Usually a dead giveaway sign for poor powdercoating. They also mask all threads! I think they still charge around £40-£50 for flat colours. Price includes stripping the old frame so definitely don't bother doing it yourself.

When its done you can book a collection for the same £12-£15. So worst case is £80 for a top job delivered :)

It's all work that might be wasted if you don't like the ride though. Just rub the frame over with an oily rag after every ride and any rust or bare patches won't get any worse while you decide if you like it. :)

+1 on oily rag if you have ridden the bike and like it go for the raw frame if its what you want, but if your not completely sure just run a rag over it, shows the bike is ridden and used.

Hi.
You need to speak to Chris Marshall at Keighley.Yorkshire 01535 691073. He is a frame builder trained at Pennine and now spends most of his time doing classic re sprays.Truly excellent workmanship. Lug lining panels the works. Under £100 for shotblasting the frame and a single colour re enamel with clear coat.He can supply the correct decals or you might want to have a look at lloyds site. That is Nick at lloyds. You will find him on google. Hugh variety of period correct decals and he supplies lots of the frame re finishers. Its well worth going to see Chris as he has a number of finished frames hanging around so he can discuss your requirements face to face

I would still need to post it sadly as I'm not mainland uk.

I've heard excellent reports of chris marshalls work though.

They're great. But not special.

A functional powdercoat is more in keeping with the ethos of a bike like a Galaxy.

Honestly? Build it with something functional and low-end, wear that out and if you still like it get it refinished, replacing the cheap bits with blingier ones as they wear out. Wooly hat shop sells an Acera groupset for about £110. Add a set of downtube shifters, v-brake levers and you're in business.
