Dawes Fixie

Steve, does your Mum know you're on the Internet?

As Spokesmann has said, there are better things to talk about. Cheers.

It would be less funny if your bike wasn't such boring and otherwise unremarkable heap in the first place. You really think fitting a brake is going to 'ruin' that timeless classic that is the gaspipe Dawes in muddy blue with clearance so large you could fit tractor tires and it would still run?

or did you just come on here looking for people to rub one off over an old dawes conversion and tell you how epic you are because you ride slow and can't stop properly? and 52x16? good luck with that, I hear eating seaweed supplements is great for re-growing cartilege.

I can forgive an unremarkable bike, who cares, but being a rude selfish idiot and laughing at disabled people i can't.

Go grow a brain and try to realise the world doesn't stop at the end of your own spiteful peripheries.

What as in "vs. death"? Yeah, fairly seriously. Even yours steve, which is why people are so understandably frustrated that you're ignoring sound advice that will preserve yours and other people's.

To be honest, the "special olympics" comment is such a tired old meme that it's not worth taking offence over. In case anyone's wondering, the full quote is "Arguing on the internet is like running at the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded." It's funnier (in a sick kind of way) when it's quoted correctly.

Just a quick thought steve. Assuming, because you don't have any foot retention and you're pushing 52-16, that you're limited to skip/skid stops, and generously assuming that you're able to do this ambidextrously, if your feet are in the wrong position when you spot a hazard you'll have to let your feet turn half a revolution before you can lock the wheel up to even start slowing down. At 52-16 and a tire diameter of 640mm, that's well over 3 metres before you can lock your wheel up. If you're not an ambidextrous skidder, it will be 6.5 metres. That's not even considering reaction time and the metres you'll have to skid afterwards before you actually stop. Of course many sources e.g., this one, suggest that you'd have to have some form of foot retention to attempt this at all.

Yup, kitten pictures are next.

i cant believe you sad fuckers are so concerned about someone else's life even to the point of abusing that person in order to put your point across, i also find it funny that this thread has spread into 5 pages and got such a response, but i suppose i better post up a recent picture of my bike now so all you girls can sleep easy and stop bothering your better halves with talk of
"oo look at this guy hes got no brakes on his bike what an idiot ay babe" and
"im gonna tell him what i think, because im sure he will listen to a complete stranger who spends their life on a bike forum thinking they know everything"
