It's an idea. I do have a lovely anodised top cap and bolt for it though :cry:

Yeah something like below, I had to make this as I couldn't get a star nut down the steerer. Threaded rod, couplers, nyloc nuts, and a top cap each end.
After tensioning the aheadset and tightening the stem bolts I left it in place. Otherwise you need a bung or similar for a stem topcap.
Cost about £5 all in.

At last I've managed to get hold of an expander for the tiny 20mm steerer for the forks! Thanks to my lbs top mechanic/now manager. Phew!
So the forks are in, and I've made some progress with the rest of the build too.
Coming together nicely now.

Been waiting for some lightweight brake calipers this week. Turned up yesterday, so I'll be fitting them along with different pads later today I hope.
As I didn't have anything but normal Ultegra, I fancied something different. So I found theses ones.

Campag Record skeleton calipers, which look a bit different, but to be honest, are barely lighter than the Ultegras!
So I found these Token Accura ones.

So with brakes to do, bar tape and bottle cage. Hope to get it finished tonight. Oh and paint chips to do as well. :roll:

Can we have a pic if the whole thing then? I'm so glad you didn't repaint it, I really like the colour (even if the finished thing will look more like a Cadbury's creme egg than a bike )

This is shaping up to be a shiny/sparkly one, and probably the nicest so far, I’m no serious roadie as you know - but is that Dura Ace 7800 as it looks the same as what’s on my Trek

So with the short almost throw away sentence containing the two words - “and Manager” has the career change been accomplished?


And can’t agree with Foz more. - we need and demand better pics
BTW ...did THM originally own those brakes they are very colourfully

I'd love to get hold of some orange Benotto tape for it but prices are ridiculous at the moment! So I will be fitting my go to Cinelli cork in the meantime.

Sadly the Hope cap is a bit lighter than the frame colour. But I'll live with it, for now at least. Massive 140mm stem may stay or may be replaced by something shorter, see how it feels. My original idea was to have a stem anodised orange, but on reflection I think that may be a bit too much orange.

Nice hubs mister! Rear is a bit clicky, but I have a plan. Leave my hearing aids out!

Nick, the only 7800 (10 speed ) on here is the cranks. The shifters and mechs are 9 speed 7700. The aero levers are 7401. 8 speed ( I think ) Dura Ace.
