Dave Lloyd Frame Register

Re:

That info tallies with the register, LL981574 is shown as a Road frame ordered by St Andrews Street and made of 01.

As you say, it is nice to see as many examples 'alive and kicking' as possible, yours is a beauty.

Thanks
I seem to remember discussing what i wanted the bike to do with Dave and the fact that i really only had room for one bike at home for commuting and riding.
So he said (again IIRC) that he would build a frame from a softer tubing but with tight angles. I've got it up and running and it does seem to be slightly twitchy, but i suspect i'll get used to it.
Credit also has to go to John Dean from St.Andrews Street Cycles - he completed the build. He represented New Zealand at the Olympics a couple of times (He ended up in Aberdeen somehow?) the shop was really good, but he had to go back to NZ many years ago for family reasons.
Let me know if you want any more info or pictures.

Re:

Twitchy describes every Dave Lloyd I have ridden, both on and off road. The only DL I have ridden that feels more relaxed is a 1978 frame I restored that was not built by Dave and is made of Reynolds 531, which tends to be a little more forgiving.

Please feel free to post anything you like about the bike, we all love older bikes here and bikes that are still with their original owners are a bit of a rarity.

Re:

Just purchased my first DL, seller had little info about it, was wondering if you might be able to help ? It has 504 stamped on the bb shell although it looks more like 50 to the power of 4. Anything in the register you could share would be greatly appreciated. Will share pics when I’m at my computer

Re:

Let's have a look at it first and I may be able to help.

That number is not a Dave Lloyd frame number, but it could well be that some of it is obscured by paint, it very often is.

Re:

Ahh I can see there’s another number on one of the crank sides of the shell but unfortunately is obscured by paint. It’s been renovated by Bob Jackson, very nicely, and the stamps on the fork crown, seat stays and brake bridge would suggest it is a DL. Here’s a phone pic.

Re:

Ahhh ha! Recently purchased from eBay if I am not mistaken.

NICE, and definitely a DL made frame.

Under the bottom bracket (somewhere) there will be a number starting LL (actually 77 upside down), the number will then be six digits long, this will be the year of manufacture 95 for instance and then a four digit unique number.

So, as an example my own Concept 90 is LL971463.

Re:

Yup an eBay purchase picked up today :) got some nice bits and some not so nice, going to get some drops on there first and then perhaps some new wheels and 9 speed brifters over time

I can see where the frame number is but I can’t make it out. It’s been painted over.

Might contact bob Jackson to see if they have any record, maybe the 504 stamp is theirs.

Thanks for your help

Re:

504 could well be from the repaint, if you take the forks off you will probably find the same stamp on the steerer stem somewhere.

Taking photo's with and without a flash at an oblique angle will sometimes get the number, or a good old fashioned rubbing, with paper and pencil.

The rebuild sounds good, just as long as you enjoy riding it, that's the main thing.

1989 753 Lloyd

Collected 753, Campag Croce d'aune equipped, road bike on 29.04.1989 for some Vets racing! Finished in blue with white fade out to forks n rear triangle.
Unfortunately, no visible frame number, good tip to look on fork steerer for no. Who wants to do that?
Have upgraded most equipment, except seat pin. Now reserved for Summer and fair weather rides.
Couple of months later took delivery of similar version, red instead of blue, in 653, but allowances for guards for winter etc. Unfortunately, no longer exists.
Considering respraying but seeking transfers, any suggestions?
