dating an old Falcon bike

Wow you guys are good, I have to add - just in case this makes ANY - differnece, that the bike was bought in Vienna, Austriaso there might have been any export models that were made back then? I now live in the UK, and since the bike is originally from here I thought I have a look if there is any information around.
Also, regarding the stem, yes, it set up very broderline, due to my size, - that is one of the reasons I am not really riding it anymore.
Many thanks,
Nik

Looks like mid to late 70s to me. Not one of the higher end models -- mudguard eyes, pump pegs and no hanger for the rear mech. If the components are original (looks like the Shimano gears might be), then they may have date stamps (cryptic, but there are guides online) that would help. Does mid-late 70s tally with when you got it?
Nick

Yes, that would be the time my Dad would have gotten it.

I think we can safely say round about mid-70s, and either of these two models -- there was probably quite a bit of chopping and changing of details from year to year. There might be a date code on the rear mech somewhere, if you really wanted to try to pin it down.

I’ve got a 77/78 Falcon Black Diamond. Have a look on the wheel hubs, mine are Normandy stamped with a date. And the Weinmann brake callipers have a manufacturing date marked on them. I didn’t realise that until I took them off to clean and refurb as the dates are on the back. Take them off and have a look, it might help with the date area.
