Guys
errr, forgive me this question.....
so i just bought two continental travel contact tyres for my pub bike, and they came with inner tubes, yet they are not the valves i know, like the old ones, which were like a cars tyre valves, and these are all thin and weedy and have a screw on bit on top of the valve, and i wonder......

here it comes.....

how do i inflate these? can i use a airline at a garage?

like i said, im sorry.

also, the hole in the wheel rim is too wide for the valve, is this going to be a problem, as these need quite high pressures.

regards
Rob

Sounds like your tubes have Presta valves, also known as high pressure. The garage airline will not work with this sort of valve.

You can get adaptors to inflate them, or most modern pumps do both. Also you can get spacers to fit to the rims to take up the slack. Or buy new tubes or even swap them :)

You pump may have a selector on it (often a slider or you unscrew the end and turn the rubber part inside out sort of thing) or you get a new end if it the traditional style.... hahaha not much use to you that.

But you can get grommets to go between the valve and int he rim hole to help out. I have never seen them or know where to get them from. I just run them as is.

You CAN use an car airline but you need to get a cheap Alu or Brass adaptor, Local bike store, t'internet or supermarket might have . They're not expensive and you can leave it on the valve so you know where it is.

you legends!

thank you all!
guess im still going to have to walk to the pub tonight though, then again, i suppose i do run a pub of my own, i'll just walk downstairs!
thanks again!
Rob

theres no real performance difference between them........i guess they just distance bikes from those disgusting four wheeled contraptions that the uneducated use to get in my way when im out riding......

Are you going to use the bike for riding up and down the stairs to work? Wouldn't a Stannah Stairlift be more suitable?

No! tonight was going to be my inaugeral (spelt wrong) ride to 'the muggery' a pub too far to walk to. i'll just be having a few at my own place instead!
hey ho! save some money for some bar ends!
Rob

If you originally had the other kind of valve, you will need a reducer so they fit in the valve holes of the rim.

A bike shop is having a laugh if they try and sell you one, they usually come for free with rims.
