Hey all,

Seen the frame of a Daewoo Genius online for the first time this week, appreciate not the highest spec bike but love the look of the frame, does anyone know much about these?

Yes I own one myself. There was two different models, one of steel and the other of aluminium but both identical in appearance. They were released in 1997 in daewoos attempt at breaking the mountain bike market. For whatever reason they were not much of a hit ( surprisingly given the fantastic frame design) and daewoo pulled the plug shortly after releasing the aluminium model due to continued lower than expected sales. Due to the short time the aluminium version was on sale for it is now a very rare bike to come across. I remember seeing one in 97 and thinking that it was the coolest bike I'd ever seen, but it wasn't until the end of 2021 before I would see another one! And I work fixing up and rebuilding vintage bikes so it's just testament to their rarity that I don't see them at all. My one has been entirely stripped and custom rebuilt and upgraded for the 21st century and boy does it look so incredible. The frame design looks really modern and I frequently get offered money for the thing. But I won't even think of selling her

Very similar to the later small size GT ALU bikes that popped up..., But for grown ups.

The brand never really worked, well not for me. Decals were like an after thought, But they were affordable to most folks when alu frames were all looking samey samey and easy to put a leg over the top tube.

"That'll be the Daewoo"

Then it wasn't...... Right on paper though

Thanks for the info, I too saw that one in 2021, I think it went for silly cheap I think it was actually a screen shot of the one in my original post :p

As an avid GT fan, the triple triangle suits me to a tee

The bend in the top tube it’s beautiful too 🥰

I've got alu frame also :) It could be designed by Italians for Daweoo http://web.tiscali.it/daewoobi/mod05.htm The frame is nicely done, good welds and it looks sturdy. I have Altus A10 full groupset in nice condition, maybe will use it for this bike. A10 is older than frame but I have also RS sid hydraair from 2000. So A10 from 93, frame 97 and fork 2000 lol nice combo. But all in boxes just laying around with no purpose. Yeah, I think it's a good starting point for this thing.
