anooother factor, is I reckon I'd see this bike as a tool,not necessarily a thing of beauty. My road bike is upgraded by attrition or function or comfort and to a lesser extent my modern mtb's. For looks retro wins out you never know replace that cannondale in your story with an Alan next year

If it was the choice of those 2, I'd go for the cube.
If you're open to other suggestions, I'd go for the Kona Jake. I speak (or rather - type), as someone who owns one and has been cycling the 50 mile round trip to work on it a couple of times a week. I also did a 400 mile ride on it a month ago (so possibly biased).

It's comfortable and looks retro too!
Not only that but it handles like a dream off road and they're going for less than £600!
