It annoys me that people that cycle are labeled irresponsible i have ridden on roads for years, i have had accidents aswell one time i run over an old woman due to some girl in a BMW pulling out in front of me when she should have give way, i had to swerve to avoid the car and as such didnt have time to brake and hit this woman just crossing at the lights totalled the bike chipped my front teeth and hurt this woman, all due to a driver seeing and thinking f**k it its only a cyclist and they wonder why we jump on the side sometimes with drivers like that. that was my worst accident on the road ever so far and hopefully it will stay that way.
I find car drivers more irresposible i can walk down my road and have a large section of pavement you can not walk down as car owners put the car on the side with all 4 wheels on side sorry if offend any drivers in here but its so when walking down the road with a pram and kids. thats my rant anyway

i can see us all getting the blame for this one assholes actions. i hope something bad happens to him from what iv'e seen and as far as i can make out he murdered her with his bike telling her to move as he wasn't stopping well that constitutes murder in my book :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: my sympatheys are with the family who will never see there little girl again i just hope were not all acredited with this evil man

read about this today in the paper, they were going on about how the bike didn't conform to british standard because it didn't have pedal reflectors and rear reflector, not that it would have made any difference to the fact that an asshole was riding the bike! they also kept going on about the value of the bike £4750 iirc. none of those things make any difference. a ford escort can kill just as much as a ferrari.
by the description, the guy was an ass and as others have said i feel really sorry for the family of the girl killed.
but as to the general tarring of us all with the same brush i get pissed right off with that.
i was riding in london this weekend from waterloo to streatham hill, about 5 miles. there must have been 30 sets of traffic lights. i did stop for them and the zebra crossings and so did a lot of other cyclists but there were several who were jumping lights and riding like idiots. what i always notice about these people is they are either the top end bike rider (or in london, couriers) who are arrogant enough to think they are invincable or they are the cheap numpty rider, the ones who ride a bike because it's cheap and they can't afford even basic public transport and so just don't have the skill to ride the bike properly or care enough to be interested to learn.
one thing i did notice is the influence of courier style fixed bikes being ridden by people who can't handle them. fixed and no brakes should not be used on the road and certainly not in traffic, i know there are some skilled riders out there who can cope with this style of bike but generally it is not safe for them or the general public around them.

for what its worth i spend all week at the local schools teaching road safety to primary kids as well as cycling prof and the one thing i keep telling them is to always treat car drivers as if they left their brains at home so they have to do the thinking for them.they all get taken out on their bikes and as peds near busy spots so i can show them the dangers.plus they get the arrive alive books plus a bunch of other stuff they can read as well as hedgehog stickers for their bikes.i have had an occaision where a child was doing a left turn onto a main road ie stop at the junction.look both ways and behind ect and then move off.10 secs later a bmw came off the main road into the one where she was standing at 50 mph.if she had still been there she would be dead without a doubt.git didnt even slow down.i wish i could spend more time showing them more but there are so many kids and so few time to do it they only get about 40 mins a session.

If I was her family. That cyclist wouldn't get away with it. And no jury would convict them for taking revenge. It's the victim and her family that are the loosers

But car/van drivers aren't much better. And pedestrians in London walk around as if they are invisable. Seem to have forgot the 'green X code' I learnt that as a kid.
