Cycling pet hates

People who take the 'retro is king' thing a little too far. Modern bikes are fun too and modern doesn't have to mean 7" at each end and £5000 price tags. As long as you are out riding it doesn't matter folks!

^^^^^^
What he said.

My bike has constantly evolved since 1997, with many sets of components, wheels, and even 3 frames, and is currently an 8spd XTR'd 2001, which is plenty "Retro" enough for me, thankyou very much

Sounds like Trigger's broom.

just remembered another.

people describing a frame as 'mint' & 'well maintained' but photographing it looking sorry for itself whilst sat directly on gravel or worst still, concrete/slabs. leaning against a brick wall. ouch!

That's how my missus refers to her C16R!

White saddles, even on road bikes, very "on trend" presently which is a good enough reason to hate them. White grips also.
Lock-on grips that scratch your car when you lean your bike against it. Also imagine they would take a nice sample of flesh out of you in the event of that sort of crash.
People riding around with squeaky chains desperate for a drop of lube, or nearly flat tyres, or gears not anywhere near indexed, or seat far too low. Talk about making it difficult.

Totally agree with this, white bar tape especially. Seems like every new road bike comes equipped with it and it looks grubby and horrible in about 5 minutes.

My pet peeve, for what seems like the last few years, has been single speed bikes that aren't fixed gear with just a front brake. I can't put my finger on why it irks me so much, following a trend without really understanding what and why?
