(Imo) There’s a borderline where it looks just right. I was showing a BMX riding colleague some images of retro bikes and he couldn’t believe they were for real. In my advancing years, my back tells me high seat post are not a good idea.

I just have seatpost so that I can touch the floor on tip toes
as for handlebar stems as a kid it didn't affect me but as I got older I needed the shorter stem so less reach
