Cycle to Work scheme or retro?

Sensible side of me wants to join the company cycle to work scheme and get a cheap bike via salary sacrifice. Which I won't own for 2 years.

Interesting side of me wants to build one or two retro bikes that have all the quirks that suit my commute (if I ever do commute!) which wouldn't be available off the peg.

Could be buit up quite cheap and with quality parts throughout with my dimesions, gear ratios etc. Wouldn't be new but would be bespoke and mine.

pick a new bike that'll keep it's value and sell it after 2 yrs.......

or buy a new bike for the bits and flebay the frame
