cycle computer help.... none of them work!!!

I have tried a couple of cycle computers on my gringo - with no joy.

out of the 4 i have bought and subsequently returned, none of them would work because they didn't have the ability to read the sensor at a 'normal' mtb spoke / fork distance.

so - working to the lower end of the market (i only want it for the distance covered readout - any other feature is a bonus) what options are there that will happily and consistently work on a front suss mtb.

for reference, I have a pair of bomber m2 supercomp forks on it (about 2 / 3 years old) with DMR hubbed / mavic rimmed wheels. the spoke to fork gap is just short of 3cm at the hub & 6cm at the rim (all the ones i bought needed the sensor at the rim and the gap was too big)

I usually try spacing the sensor out from the fork using a rolled up bit of inner tube between the fork and sensor.
This gets it closer to the trigger magnet attached to the spokes.

Worth a try.
Not the prettiest solution but might save returning any more computers.

I'm probably a rarity but here goes:-

I refuse to have any speedo / cadence counter / distance meter / hill angle calculator / GPS / heart rate monitor .... or even a watch!

Any of this actually distracts me from just looking at the road/track whilst riding along and enjoying it. I'm a grumpy old Luddite fart! :p

i completely agree, to be honest, i would mount it as out of the way as possible and use it purely for reference for distance/time/avg speed at the end of a run purely to give me a quantitative measure for my progress as i get fitter/quicker on my usual routes.

I have found a handy online pedometer that lets you plot your routes and tells you distance so i can use that alongside my watch to get averages, its confined to roads and tracks though so will be no use for when i decide to amble along 'off piste'

I have a cateye cordless, It has a big chunky sensor that can be angled very close to the spokes... Worth a try?

Same here, seems fine so far only had it ona week or so though. The kit doesn't seem to be designed with chunky forks in mind but the zip ties hald it fine and can be angled to within the necessary 5mm of sensor/magnet distance easily.
