Cutting outer cable

I find a dremel or grinder approach causes the black outer skin to swell with the heat (even when careful).

You can bodge through brake outer with a big cold chisel & lump hammer, dont even think about it on SIS outer though.

Proper cabe cutters FTW though I say.

I use a pair of top quality side cutters I have for work. Or if I remember to take the cable outers to work I use a set of Felco cutters I have there. They can cut 10mm steel wire so outers are a piece of cake to them.

Ideally you'd invest in some proper cable cutters, I got some BBB cable cutters last year, one of the best things I ever did tbh.

You guys work too hard :p . Just use a good quality side cutter like below, then trim the burr (if any) with the tip of the same cutters. I've done this thousands of times (literally) over the years and never had one problem.

this is why i trim a narrow strip away where the grind will be. if it gets too hot the inner sleeve can get a bit torn though so a quick cut is essential.

Side cutters don't tend to leave a clean cut in my experience but those electrician's jobbies with the curved jaws go through inners and outers like a knife through butter... I will never use anything else.

I have heard them referred to as 'parrot cutters' by some people... SQUAWK!
