Cutting outer cable

I will do it but will make a mess of it. Invest in some proper bike specific cable cutters

As above or heavy duty cable cutters. I've a pair of These and they are fine. Mind and file the end flat if you use a hacksaw.

You can also use a Dremel with the cutting tool.

Angle grinder is more than fine, will give you a nice square end.

grinder will work but make sure the disc isn't too hot or it could potentially damage the liner / sleeve.

my method is to use a 2 cuts with a sharp knife to peel away a small strip of outer (only about 1 - 2mm wide) then go through the core with a grinder disc on the dremmel. hacksaw does work too but i find the dremmel gives a lot more control (and because i don't have a 6" grinder anymore, doing it with the big bugger is a £10 solution to a 10p problem!)
