Custom stems. Anyone ever had one made?

Last I heard, Chris still has a few of his Ti bar/stem combos at his shop. You're lookin' at 5 bills for one.

I'm thinking of having a stem custom made by a frame builder. What I have in mind is, an A-head 110 - 115mm length with maybe a 6 degree rise. Nothing too unusual there but, I'd like it to have an extended steerer clamp to negate the need for spacers. Does that make sense?

So, any of you guy's done anything similar & if so who did you use?

Any input / suggestions welcome.

:)

Why not go with something higher rise (that 6-deg) and not have the extended clamp area at all? I despise the look of spacers too --- but to me an extended steerer clamp is just a slightly nicer looking version of spacers. I don't have many threadless steerer bikes, but here's one I had a custom stem done for (by Retrotec):

And, for the holiday season, a favorite pic... the Christmas tree of stems:

Not a bad idea, I just don't like the look of a stem with lot's of rise. I know it sounds daft but, I just associate them with entry level bikes. Sorry if that makes me sound like a bike snob
