Curtis SuperX 2001

Looks great. That blue is amazing, but I’m biased as my Sentinel is a very similar colour. It’s going to be an absolute hooligan when it’s done

The blue does look good. The bike feels lighter than I expected too which is a bonus. I really like the blue bore caps on the brakes, I got lucky when they came up for sale.

Did a small bit of tinkering during the week.

One of the brake reservoir bolts heads was rounded, I need to change the hoses so will need access to it at some point. I used my budget rotary tool to cut a small slot in the top, this worked a treat and can now change the bolt.

I also changed the derailleur bolt to match blue/gold theme. What's annoying is the text is upside down when. The previous red one was the correct orientation.

The remaining jobs are fitting the chain, changing hoses and getting a FS to IS adapter.

Did some more tinkering today.

The steertube is way too long on these forks, but today I got some Z2s with a shorter steer tube for another project. This other frame requires a really long steerer, so I decided to swap the crowns. This is when I discovered the crowns are slightly different. It'll do for now and looks much better, but at some point I may swap the steeresrs if I find someone with a suitable press.

I also got some 0.25mm shims so I could get my SRP bolt text up the right way

Recently I received a care package from Dr-Zocchi (highly recommended) so I can rebuild some of my forks, this included an FS to IS adapter for this project.

I can now test fit the front brake, this showed that a little material needed to be filed off so the the bolt holes would line up. It does look quite neat.

This caliper is a bit crusty and the pistons appear to be sticking a bit so requires a service. I have another caliper with stripped threads which is in better cosmetic condition and thought I'd play with some helicoil, if successful I can rebuild this caliper instead.

The helicoil worked OK. I did drill out the threads slightly wonky and it was quite difficult to get the coil to screw in. The other problem is one of the mounts is slightly thicker than the other which means the coil comes out the back by half a turn. As I wasn't happy with I removed the coil, cut 1 thread off and installed it again which now looks a lot better. This caliper is now usable, even with the slightly wonky holes!

All I need now is a caliper seal kit, hoses, chain, better chain device and to service the forks.
