Hi.

Really struggling to fit a crown race to my forks, so now I am thinking its the wrong size.

I have a tioga expert CR headset, but dont know the crown race size - I don't have an accurate way of measuring.

I also bought these forks off ebay:

Could it be that one of these is non standard size? Can I just get a larger crown race?

Thanks in advance :)

The problem you have is that your headset is a JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) whilst your fork is sized for a ISO (International Organization for Standardization)...

...if you hacksaw a slot in the crown race, thus turning it into a split-crown race, it will fit just fine; and be a lot easier to remove when the time comes

You could get someone with a lathe to turn down the crown race? Unfortunately it would probably cost you more than the fork from a machine shop, unless you know somebody. Easy job.

That only works for cartridge bearings mind...

Good point - didn't think of that; bit 'clicketty-click' with loose ball races!

Make sure your new headset is ISO and you'll be fine...
