Crimping Cable Ends

I'm going nuts over here. Something so simple causing so many problems.

My wifes rear mech alloy cable end keeps falling off. I've crimped a bunch of them on and they keep coming off!

They are standard alloy and I've tried crimping with needle nose pliers and also the purpose designed crimping part of a pair of cable cutters. I dont exactly have a weak grip so its just a question of using the right tool...or something different to stop the cable fraying.

Does anyone have any solutions to this rather annoying problem? The bike is about to go out of the window!

I literally have a little tube of that sitting in front of me right now but I'd never thought of it.

i do two litttle lines across with the cutting bit on standard pliers, hard enough to compress but not hard enough to go through, it doesnt deform the rest of the crimp either, and i can also tell when a dodgy bikeshop has told me they have changed a cable when they havent

Done the 2 lines with the side cutters thing. . works well..

Also squished the flip out of a section using the flat bits on the handle side of the pivot of the small pliers to good effect too..

The cable on the disc brake I got recently looks like the end has been 'tinned' with solder.. I may give that a go next time I swap a cable..
Will still need an end on it though, for that little blip of colour.

3 evenly spaced slanted crimps using the cutting surfaces of a pair of needle nose pliers.

Apply pressure firmly, but not so much as to split the end, never had one fall off yet.

Or as has been mentioned...superglue...

Cable ends are a pain- the answer to stopping your cable fraying is to solder it. Works a treat.

I am going to glue mine on the Marin as I don’t like seeing them 'squashed'

+1 the superglue . You can also use clear nail varnish for when you realize the superglue has gone hard and can't be bothered to go to the shop .
