Creaking when peddling with some power

Have noticed this a bit recently since the 957 went back together. I am sure it is the 14 year old original BB, and I am also using the original crankset I believe. I have felt a tiny amount of play when pulling the crank back and forth. Is there a good chance the play and the creaking is coming from the BB which needs replacing? The audible noise definitely is coming from down in the front mech/pedals/gears, kind of area..... know what I mean LOL.

Well if you have play it could be the BB or that the cranks are loose on the BB axle. You will to take the crank of for that and check the square taper has not had it edges rounded off. If it isn't that then its the BB.

Normally you test the BB for play by hlding the bike firmly and pushing down on the pedals and any play can be felt.

Well, the crank (when refitted recently) appeared to go on smoothly and firmly but I will endeavour to see if its crank movement, or actual BB movement. I am 99% sure there is no play when pushing down on the pedals.

Thanks. :)

Probably the loose crank arm. It could be your chainring bolts, I get that on my main rider.

there is an ace thread on here somewhere where a bike was torn apart and rebuilt looking for a drive train creak. after ages it was discovered to be the saddle rails!

does it creak when you are stood up?

You are obviously pushing yourself and the bike to hard ;) ... chill out, shift down to the middle ring and stop putting us to shame! LOL!
