Cracked GT Frame

Not sure to be honest, I'm at a loss to explain *how* it's happened, but I agree that it certainly looks more than co-incidental that the crack is right at the bottom of where the seat post sits in the frame. The post is a 31.6 Kore, I've just pulled it out of the frame and there's not a mark on it, if it was the incorrect diameter I'd think there would be some sign of damage at the end of the post given what's happened to the frame?
I'm not sure if the frame uses tapered tubing or not, but I guess it could be a fault with the tubing used?
Either way, I'll speak straight to the distributor in the morning and see what they say. It's pretty disappointing that a frame like this fails after just two years. I'll report back as I know more!

Good friend of mine that was GT's International sales director from 94 through 09 told me to tell you to contact the CSG-UK directly (Cycling Sports Group).

There is no question in my mind that the seat tube was reamed improperly. If you look at the crack, it is paper thin and bulged out. It probably stretched before popping thru.
If it is a recently produced frame, it should be replaced under warranty. It will never be right.

Yes, it would be interesting to measure the wall thickness of the seat tube.
Anyway, by way of an update:
I've been in touch with Hot Wheels, the Warranty Manager there has been more than helpful. He has a Zaskar reissue himself and said it's the first one he's dealt with in the UK that has developed a fault, but did also venture that he doesn't know how many of them are actually being ridden...
Anyway, the upshot it they still have a couple of Medium frames in stock, I sent him a load of photos and he seems pretty sure it's a warranty issue. We're just negotiating whether I have to send the whole bike to them or they'll do an advance replacement - I must admit I'd rather not have to have it couriered down to Poole, although they're offering to rebuild the whole bike onto a replacement frame - mind you I'm quite capable of doing that myself! At least they're making positive noises, which is more than I expected to be honest.

OK we have a result, CSG have been spot on in all fairness, they're sending me out a replacement frame and I'm going to do the rebuild myself which suits me just fine. They're at a loss to explain what's happened, but said they'll investigate when the broken frame arrives back with them.
