Crack in Nuovo Record RD

NICKeL

Retro Newbie
Hi,

I'm new here and was hoping I could ask for a little advice.

I've just stripped down a '81 Nuovo rear derailleur and noticed a hairline crack in the cage - where it screws into the spring holder body (not sure of the correct term) - but I just wanted to know if it'll hold up to riding, or is it likely to go without warning when I'm in the middle of nowhere?!

BTW. It'll be going onto a 1981 Gazelle Champion Mondial AB that I'm just gathering parts for.

Thanks

Nick

Not too sure if you can braze Aluminium?

Yep, that broken part on the shifter could be a pain to replace. I suppose you'd just have to get a whole new lever set up, unless you get lucky and someone has one in their parts bin!

is it ? mig or tig but then if it has been hardened do you think that might cause a problem? yeah cheer's i have posted for one in wanted, then of course there's always cycle jumbles.
