Covid-19 & Cycling - Living with it - Wide Discussion

Hijacked from LGF:

I work for a government agency focussed on the automotive sector. There are too many cars that we dont need and we dont need to be so reliant on what is pretty much a bunch of finance companys that lean on governments to further their own ends. I agree completely.

The media screams - all the time! Sssh.

I can't believe how much cycling I've done. How clean the air is. The peace and quiet.

ITS BEEN GREAT!!!

A little part of me would love for this to be the new normal, less focus on excessive consumption and more on the process of just living in a peaceful way.

Ahh, if only there were more who thought this way.

It could be that more people are forced into substituting their cars for bicycles, i know thats an ideal pushed already but with reccession looming it may be a reality. The thing is from my brief look into new bikes the prices seem high in comparison to a car, i mean, a lot of people i know including myself spend a lot less on a car than a modern bicycle costs, this factor, if bikes are to become more the norm, must surely be addressed and result in more production of cheaper bikes, ebay is already flooded with very cheap bikes from abroad and im sure it wont be long before shops will be too.

With the lockdown in Denmark we had little to no restrictions on exercise, so I think it's safe to say that cycling and other outdoor activities is thriving here. This has led to me exercising less as I can't stand other people

Judging by your join date, you obviously concluded it was better to stay indoors, surf the internet
about old tatty knackered bikes that are one step from the scrap heap, and loose track of time. ;)

Next thing you will be loosing your remaining bank balance. Welcome to Retrobike :!:

I guess several countries will now be looking more closely how the Danes do their urban cycle policies.

Ditto. Ideal opportunity to re-adjust the rat race.

You got me there :D

But to be a bit less negative, I do think it's good to see people going out and having fun on bikes and what not. I do think covid19 has allowed some people do dust off their old bikes and get a bit of wind in their hair, I see people of all ages out and about more often than I would prior to the arrival of the bug. The more devoted Road crowd also seem to be keen as ever, I see huge flocks of them driving about. I think a lot of people have used cycling and other forms of exercise as a way to kind of ignore social distancing here, them assuming that it's probably safe so long that they're outside.

Also, legrande in regards to helmets not being worn here, I'd argue that a lot of people do wear helmets, especially those of us in the outskirts and more rural areas. Cities not so much.

Looking at the UK from outside, the virus seems to have healed the Brexit divide.

Merely been put aside for time being I reckon

Interestingly, the "Declaration to travel to/in mainland France" document I had to fill in so I could re-enter
France during lockdown gave specific mentions for UK citizens - both in the EU, and out of EU during the transition period.

My conclusion of this was that at least France is marching on with Brexit preparations and it was assumed
the epidemic will last till B-day at the end of the year. Talk about cover all angles.
