But if you want disc brakes and wide tyres (and compare like for like), a steel frame is 70% the cost of ti, and could save a kilo - I mean, the steel frame needs fork too after all.
A customer of ours rode lejog on an £80 6 speed raleigh pioneer with the plastic canti arms
Another used a £3000 carbon Cannondale with ultegra hydro discs.
